Gaito - A layered architecture to manage complex multimedia services

    No full text
This paper presents the development of an innovative service architecture for the management of multimedia services that can be used in a 3G/IMS and 4G network with the use of the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) protocol, the standard used in the 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) environment. The JAIN SIP APIs, provided by SUN, have been implemented and utilised in order to realise the IP-based connection layer. Furthermore, the complete architecture contemplates a control system for the management of the sessions in progress and a service layer, which strictly interacts with the control layer and manages CPL (Call Processing Language) scripts. In the paper all the necessary steps for the realisation of the developed architecture will be described and its possible employment in the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) of the 3G and 4G networks will be shown. The developed structure appears modular, easily extendible and aims at exploiting as much as possible the extensions and the potentialities offered by SIP
