Green IT and Green IS: Definition of Constructs and Overview of Current Practices

In this paper, the evolution of environmentally sustainable information systems management, addressed through the terms Green IT and Green IS, is analyzed from an IS research perspective. The theoretical foundations of this research area are examined through a literature review and revised in the scope of a content analysis. The characteristics of Green IT and Green IS are contrasted, and impact areas are identified. Based on these findings, the concepts of Green IT and Green IS are thoroughly defined. Next, a wide range of prevalent Green IT practices is assigned to specific value creation processes of IT departments and presented in a catalogue of Green IT measures. Greens IS initiatives, which enable environmentally sustainable business processes and end products, are categorized and consolidated in a comprehensive list of relevant practices. This paper provides an overview of theoretical constructs and practice-oriented implementation measures, thus facilitating insights to both, academics and practitioners

Understanding Digital Platform Generativity from a Sociomaterial Perspective

Research on digital platform generativity has predominantly taken a substantivist view, considering digital platforms as relatively static, self-contained entities separated from their human actors. We argue this view, while intuitive and common sensical, also has a downside – biasing researchers and practitioners from understanding the dynamic and processual nature of digital platform constituted through generativity in the flow of time. We offer a sociomaterial view to consider digital platforms as an assemblage of enacted sociomaterial practices, enabling researchers to move from studying platforms to platform becoming, and from generativity to generating. We illustrate these ideas via a preliminary empirical study of how generativity is constituted by the performativity of a digital platform, as it is enacted by the human agencies entailed in its design and management. Ultimately, our study aims to take steps towards a sociomaterial theory of digital platform generativity that can contributes to the digital platform literature

Software Ecosystem Orchestration: The Perspective of Complementors

Software ecosystems (SECOs) driven by platform business models have changed how consumer software is produced and marketed. Also in the enterprise software segment, value networks in the form of SECOs are replacing traditional business models and linear value chains. These SECOs involve three main types of actors: platform sponsor, complementors, and customers. Platform sponsor strategies have been researched broadly, but not the view of complementors. Further, there are few studies of real-world SECOs. In our research, we have investigated the complementor’s perspective on SECOs and their partnership with the platform sponsor. Through exploratory qualitative research using a practical case from the enterprise software industry, we have developed a partner management framework comprising the complementors ’ value creation process, goals, enablers, and instruments. The model can be used generally to gain a better understanding of complementors, and by platform sponsors to improve their partner management processes

This potpourri of educational technology conferences includes gems such as “Saving Your Organisation from Boring eLearning” and “Lessons and Insights from Ten eLearning Masters”. And, if you wish, you can “Be an Open Learning Hero”. You will also find that the number of mobile learning conferences (and conferences that have a mobile learning component) have increased significantly. Countries such as China, Indonesia, Japan, and Thailand have shown a keen interest in mobile learning. It would be impossible for you to be present at all the conferences that you would like to attend. But, you could go to the conference website/url during and after the conference. Many conference organizers post abstracts, full papers, and/or videos of conference presentations. Thus, you can visit the conference virtually and may encounter information and contacts that would be useful in your work.
