    Classical and quantum q-deformed physical systems

    On the basis of the non-commutative q-calculus, we investigate a q-deformation of the classical Poisson bracket in order to formulate a generalized q-deformed dynamics in the classical regime. The obtained q-deformed Poisson bracket appears invariant under the action of the q-symplectic group of transformations. In this framework we introduce the q-deformed Hamilton's equations and we derive the evolution equation for some simple q-deformed mechanical systems governed by a scalar potential dependent only on the coordinate variable. It appears that the q-deformed Hamiltonian, which is the generator of the equation of motion, is generally not conserved in time but, in correspondence, a new constant of motion is generated. Finally, by following the standard canonical quantization rule, we compare the well known q-deformed Heisenberg algebra with the algebra generated by the q-deformed Poisson bracket.Comment: 9 pages, accepted for publication in "The European Physical Journal C

    English is an International language that has important role in the world of knowledge and it is used for communication. In Indonesia, English belongs to a foreign language and it is taught from elementary school to university. In language teaching process, writing is a subject which gets least attention from the teacher and the learner. Whereas, writing, especially in English, is an important subject to master. To solve that problem, one of the efforts which can be done is through writing diaries. This study investigated can diaries be used to improve the students’ writing skill for the third year students of SMPN 1 Lamongan and how effective can the diaries improve the students’ writing skill for the third year students of SMPN 1 Lamongan. The purpose of this study was to find the answer whether the use of diaries can improve the students’ skill or not and to describe how effective the diaries can improve the students’ writing skills for the third year students of SMPN 1 Lamongan. In conducting the study, the writer employed a quasi-experimental design. The subject of this study was one class which consists of 44 students. The instruments used to collect the data were pretest and posttest, then the scores were calculated by using t-test formula. The result of this study showed that there was a significant different between the scores of pretest and posttest. Besides, the result of the calculation of t-test showed that the pretest and posttest already make a significant progress. It means that the end of the study the both tests were significantly different. So, it can be concluded that the diaries can be used to improve the students’ skills in writing and effective to be used to improve the students’ skills in writing

    Advances in semantic representation for multiscale biosimulation: a case study in merging models

    As a case-study of biosimulation model integration, we describe our experiences applying the SemSim methodology to integrate independently-developed, multiscale models of cardiac circulation. In particular, we have integrated the CircAdapt model (written by T. Arts for MATLAB) of an adapting vascular segment with a cardiovascular system model (written by M. Neal for JSim). We report on three results from the model integration experience. First, models should be explicit about simulations that occur on different time scales. Second, data structures and naming conventions used to represent model variables may not translate across simulation languages. Finally, identifying the dependencies among model variables is a non-trivial task. We claim that these challenges will appear whenever researchers attempt to integrate models from others, especially when those models are written in a procedural style (using MATLAB, Fortran, etc.) rather than a declarative format (as supported by languages like SBML, CellML or JSim’s MML)

To achieve the movement down the virtual skiing slope the skier who stands on a pair of skis attached to the floor performs the same movements as on real skis, in particular this is the case on carving skis: tilting the body to the left initiates a left turn, tilting the body to the right initiates a right turn, by lowering the body, the speed is increased.     Physics-inspired Performace Evaluation of a Structured Peer-to-Peer Overlay Network

    In the majority of structured peer-to-peer overlay networks a graph with a desirable topology is constructed. In most cases, the graph is maintained by a periodic activity performed by each node in the graph to preserve the desirable structure in face of the continuous change of the set of nodes. The interaction of the autonomous periodic activities of the nodes renders the performance analysis of such systems complex and simulation of scales of interest can be prohibitive. Physicists, however, are accustomed to dealing with scale by characterizing a system using intensive variables, i.e. variables that are size independent. The approach has proved its usefulness when applied to satisfiability theory. This work is the first attempt to apply it in the area of distributed systems. The contribution of this paper is two-fold. First, we describe a methodology to be used for analyzing the performance of large scale distributed systems. Second, we show how we applied the methodology to find an intensive variable that describe the characteristic behavior of the Chord overlay network, namely, the ratio of the magnitude of perturbation of the network (joins/failures) to the magnitude of periodic stabilization of the network
