The Assessment of the Role of Qatar Airways in the Economic Development of Qatar

The aviation industry in the Arabian Gulf is growing at a fast pace, attracting the global attention upon the region. The Gulf airlines have entered the international aviation market as state-owned entities, having embedded in their interests as commercial airlines, the visions of their countries. In light of such developments, the research aimed at assessing a particular Gulf airline, namely Qatar Airways, and its role in the planned economic development of Qatar. The study has been structured around two main themes: the assessment of Qatar Airways’ performance using the neoliberal theory and developmental theory. Such perspectives allowed not only the examination of the state-owned airline’s evolution within the context of free markets and within the context of national economic development, but also the recognition of the impact of air transport on the economic development

ICT INDUSTRY INTEGRATED CURRICULA: TOWARDS AN ONTOLOGY BASED COMPETENCY MODEL

As technology advances rapidly, the ever changing industry needs for skills and competencies keeps changing in efforts to seize the nearest competitive advantage. This creates a great burden on higher education institutions to accurately be able to supply what the industry currently demands. Understanding and analyzing the gap between the supplied and demanded competencies has been always a topic of debate and research between both domains of knowledge. In this thesis, we have proposed developing an ontology that would help in identifying the gap between the employee and occupation competencies. The objective is to be able to generate the gap analysis utilizing the ontology and provide users with information that would help them in gaining more knowledge about the domain and taking informative decisions based on facts. Two separate ontologies representing classes and object properties of the Education and the Industry domain were successfully modeled. The validation shows that the ontology correctly classifies the employees as Fit or Un-fit to the set of occupations they applied for according to the competency gap analysis. Performance measurements and analysis of the existing wireless communication technology in Iraq.

This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel UniversityIraq may be considered as the largest wireless market in the Gulf region. A key driving factor in the market of wireless communication, it has seen enormous growth in the mobile phone market over the last five years leading to almost 24 million subscribers in 2011. Moreover, there are several technologies and services working in Iraq; three GSM Operators, three CDMA national operators and three CDMA provinces operators. The recent growth in the mobile phone market is based on the Global System for Mobile (GSM) communications and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) standards creating the next-generation wireless technologies in the Iraqi Wireless Communication market. One of the essential issues of this research is to investigate the performance of the decreased Quality Of Service (QoS) caused by interferences in the services on GSM/CDMA operators in Iraq. Many issues should be studied and taken into consideration, such as; does the Multi-Coalition Forces cause the interferences, jamming, higher rate of calls drop and false ringing; or are they caused by bad design and planning? Do we need to optimise our network due to the large number of users? All these factors are investigated and the measurements of most service providers and government agencies will be gathered. A detailed analysis was included from the providers with measurements of performance and the reasons for the deterioration of wireless services. The novel contributions of this thesis is the extensive radio measurement campaign over the three mobile an CDMA operator networks and the analysis and recommendations that were drawn to suggest the best approach to improve the QoS of Wireless communication technologies. Awareness of actual reasons behind the deterioration of services will be raised to the Iraqi Government, CMC and the wireless service providers

A survey of self organisation in future cellular networks

This article surveys the literature over the period of the last decade on the emerging field of self organisation as applied to wireless cellular communication networks. Self organisation has been extensively studied and applied in adhoc networks, wireless sensor networks and autonomic computer networks; however in the context of wireless cellular networks, this is the first attempt to put in perspective the various efforts in form of a tutorial/survey. We provide a comprehensive survey of the existing literature, projects and standards in self organising cellular networks. Additionally, we also aim to present a clear understanding of this active research area, identifying a clear taxonomy and guidelines for design of self organising mechanisms. We compare strength and weakness of existing solutions and highlight the key research areas for further development. This paper serves as a guide and a starting point for anyone willing to delve into research on self organisation in wireless cellular communication networks

Big data analytics correlation taxonomy

Big data analytics (BDA) is an increasingly popular research area for both organisations and academia due to its usefulness in facilitating human understanding and communication. In the literature, researchers have focused on classifying big data according to data type, data security or level of difficulty, and many research papers reveal that there is a lack of information on evidence of a real-world link of big data analytics methods and its associated techniques. Thus, many organisations are still struggling to realise the actual value of big data analytic methods and its associated techniques. Therefore, this paper gives a design research account for formulating and proposing a step ahead to understand the relation between the analytical methods and its associated techniques. Furthermore, this paper is an attempt to clarify this uncertainty and identify the difference between analytics methods and techniques by giving clear definitions for each method and its associated techniques to integrate them later in a new correlation taxonomy based on the research approaches. Thus, the primary outcome of this research is to achieve for the first time a correlation taxonomy combining analytic methods used for big data and its recommended techniques that are compatible for various sectors. Syncretic Narrative: Method for Navigation of Power and Resistance in War and Conflict

This research is developed out of an observed phenomenon of narrative formation in the Arab Spring. Narrative, informed by and reliant upon communication models and technologies, enables us to navigate, negotiate, and elicit meaning both from and within complexity of information. As a primary model of communication during the Arab Spring, the networked model of communication facilitated a dynamic interface between the citizen witness and institutional journalism within the networked bounds of space and time. This research investigates the operation of the citizen witness in the networked bounds of space and time, grounded in a syncretically generated geopolitical place of the Middle East, interfacing with institutional global journalism. Practice-based research was conducted in order to further investigate the identified theoretical underpinnings in the production, dissemination, and reception of narrative and to examine the role of the spectator in the shifting landscape of the author and the subject. As instruments of investigation the practice-based research incorporates interaction, generated by the spectator, as a primary mode of activation. To address the production of narrative co-created by the citizen witness and institutional journalism, within the networked bounds of space and time, the spectator’s indeterminate generation of narrative is leveraged. In order to assess the citizen witness’ position in simultaneously operating as the author and the subject, the spectator’s physical presence, determined by proximity and duration, was used to consider the exclusion of the citizen witness from the veracity gap. This research identifies syncretic narrative as a methodological tool in unpacking narrative formation generated within the networked model of communication in instances of war and conflict. In doing so, it proposes a shift in narrative formation relative to a collapse of distance between the author and the subject due to an increase in the logic of speed. As such, the methodology of this research is developed through the lens of syncretism and derived from the Event Indexing Situation Model (EISM). To investigate the observed phenomenon this research presents a procedural-driven approach undertaken to identify and analyze the indexes of the protagonist, space and time, causation, and intention. In demonstrating a shift in narrative formation relative to a collapse of distance between the author and the subject due to an increase in the logic of speed consideration is given of George Antonius as an original citizen witness in the syncretically generated geopolitical space and place of the Middle East. Accordingly, it addresses a weaponization of the citizen witness within narrative formation in the networked model of communication. As an interdisciplinary course of study this research intersects practice and theory within the domains of media art practice, narratology, media studies, journalism, and Middle Eastern politics. This dissertation is structured as a meta-methodology of the research. The intention of which is to demonstrate the proposed methodology through its own process of analysis in the investigation and exploration of narrative formation
