Topological phase in 1D1D topological Kondo insulator: Z2Z_{2} topological insulator, Haldane-like phase and Kondo breakdown

We have simulated a half-filled 1D1D pp-wave periodic Anderson model with numerically exact projector quantum Monte Carlo technique, and the system is indeed located in the Haldane-like state as detected in previous works on the pp-wave Kondo lattice model, though the soluble non-interacting limit corresponds to the conventional Z2Z_{2} topological insulator. The site-resolved magnetization in an open boundary system and strange correlator for the periodic boundary have been used to identify the mentioned topological states. Interestingly, the edge magnetization in the Haldane-like state is not saturated to unit magnetic moment due to the intrinsic charge fluctuation in our periodic Anderson-like model, which is beyond the description of the Kondo lattice-like model in existing literature. The finding here underlies the correlation driven topological state in this prototypical interacting topological state of matter and naive use of non-interacting picture should be taken care. Moreover, no trace of the surface Kondo breakdown at zero temperature is observed and it is suspected that frustration-like interaction may be crucial in inducing such radical destruction of Kondo screening. The findings here may be relevant to our understanding of interacting topological materials like topological Kondo insulator candidate SmB6_{6}.Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, accepted by EPJ

Can energy-price regulations smooth price fluctuations? Evidence from China's coal sector

© 2018 Elsevier Ltd Due to the dominance of coal in China's energy mix, coal prices have always been a challenging part of pricing reform. The recent frequent government interventions raise the key research questions: what is the actual impact of price policies on coal price fluctuations, and how can forward-looking pricing policies be made. By proposing a novel classification of coal pricing policies and introducing an expectation and forward-looking coefficient, the paper examines the relationship between coal price fluctuations and pricing policies using the generalized method of moments (GMM) method. It shows that the lagging coal price and coal demand play a positive role in regulating coal prices, while coal supply and marketization have significantly negative effects on coal price fluctuations. The heterogeneous impacts of price policies are due to differences in market players’ expectations, policy instruments and the methods of policy release. In addition, China's coal pricing policy portfolio from 2013 to 2016 exerted synergy effects on the restraint of coal price fluctuations. As the forward-looking coefficient was considerably low, the government's intervention behaviors were obviously biased towards ex post facto responses. The paper suggests short run and long run policies to advance marketization of coal prices amid the energy transition

In this process, the proxy is required to know nothing about the plaintext. Many PRE schemes have been proposed so far, however until now almost all the unidirectional PRE schemes suffer from the transferable property. That is, if the proxy and a set of delegatees collude, they can re-delegate the delegator's decryption rights to the other ones, while the delegator has no agreement on this. Thus designing non-transferable unidirectional PRE scheme is an important open research problem in the field. In this paper, we tackle this open problem by using the composite order bilinear pairing. Concretely, we design a non-transferable unidirectional PRE scheme based on Hohenberger et al.'s unidirectional PRE scheme. Furthermore, we discuss our scheme's application to secure cloud storage, especially for sharing private multimedia content for social cloud storage users.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Quantifying the impact of synoptic circulation patterns on ozone variability in northern China from April to October 2013-2017

The characteristics of ozone variations and the impacts of synoptic and local meteorological factors in northern China were quantitatively analyzed during the warm season from 2013 to 2017 based on multi-city in situ ozone and meteorological data as well as meteorological reanalysis. The domain-averaged maximum daily 8 h running average O-3 (MDA8 O-3) concentration was 122 +/- 11 mu g m(-3), with an increase rate of 7.88 lug mu g m(-3) yr(-1), and the three most polluted months were closely related to the variations in the synoptic circulation patterns, which occurred in June (149 mu m(-3)), May (138 mu m(-3)) and July (132 mu g m(-3)). A total of 26 weather types (merged into five weather categories) were objectively identified using the Lamb-Jenkinson method. The highly polluted weather categories included the S-W-N directions (geostrophic wind direction diverts from south to north), low-pressure-related weather types (LP) and cyclone type, which the study area controlled by a low-pressure center (C), and the corresponding domain-averaged MDA8 03 concentrations were 122, 126 and 128 mu g m(-3), respectively. Based on the frequency and intensity changes of the synoptic circulation patterns, 39.2 % of the interannual increase in the domain-averaged O-3 from 2013 to 2017 was attributed to synoptic changes, and the intensity of the synoptic circulation patterns was the dominant factor. Using synoptic classification and local meteorological factors, the segmented synoptic-regression approach was established to evaluate and forecast daily ozone variability on an urban scale. The results showed that this method is practical in most cities, and the dominant factors are the maximum temperature, southerly winds, relative humidity on the previous day and on the same day, and total cloud cover. Overall, 41 %-63 % of the day-today variability in the MDA8 O-3 concentrations was due to local meteorological variations in most cities over northern China, except for two cities: QHD (Qinhuangdao) at 34 % and ZZ (Zhengzhou) at 20 %. Our quantitative exploration of the influence of both synoptic and local meteorological factors on interannual and day-to-day ozone variability will provide a scientific basis for evaluating emission reduction measures that have been implemented by the national and local governments to mitigate air pollution in northern China.Peer reviewe

A hybrid human and organisational analysis method for railway accidents based on STAMP-HFACS and human information processing

    Get PDF
Safety is a constant priority for the railway industry and there are numerous hazards in and around the rail system which may result in damage to train and environment, human injury and fatalities. Low levels of human and organisational performance have been shown to be a prime cause of railway accidents and a number of accident models and methods have been developed in order to probe deeper into the role played by organisational factors in accident causation. The Systems–Theoretical Accident Modelling and Processes (STAMP) method for example, represents a promising systematic and systemic way of examining sociotechnical systems such as the railway. Another method, the Human Factors Analysis and Classification System (HFACS), based upon Reason’s model of human error in an organisational context, has also proved popular as a human factors accident analysis framework. However, human factors elements are still somewhat limited and under-specified and these managerial and social issues within an organisation are simply regarded as sources of failure in the control constraints of STAMP. HFACS likewise, categorises accident data rather than analysing it in more depth. In this context, a hybrid human and organisational analysis method based on HFACS-STAMP (HFACS-STAMP method for railway accidents, HS-RAs) is proposed to identify and analyse human and organisational factors involved in railway accidents. Using the categories of human errors derived from HFACS and the structured systematic analysis process of STAMP, the HS-RAs method provides a mechanism by which active failures can promulgate across organisations and give a systemic analysis of human error in accidents. Combined with human information processing, the HS-RAs method gives a detailed causal analysis of human errors from receiving information to implement control actions. At last, the HS-RAs method is demonstrated using a case study of the 2011 Yong-Wen railway collision. A number of prominent accident causes of human factors are revealed and necessary countermeasures are proposed to avoid the recurrence of similar accidents. The HFACS-STAMP hybrid method has several advantages and can contribute to railway safety by providing a detailed analysis of the role of human error in railway accidents

Triply heavy tetraquark states with the QQQˉqˉQQ\bar{Q}\bar{q} configuration

In the framework of the color-magnetic interaction, we systematically investigate the mass splittings of the QQQˉqˉQQ\bar{Q}\bar{q} tetraquark states and estimated their rough masses in this work. These systems include the explicitly exotic states ccbˉqˉcc\bar{b}\bar{q} and bbcˉqˉbb\bar{c}\bar{q} and the hidden exotic states cccˉqˉcc\bar{c}\bar{q}, cbbˉqˉcb\bar{b}\bar{q}, bccˉqˉbc\bar{c}\bar{q}, and bbbˉqˉbb\bar{b}\bar{q}. If a state around the estimated mass region could be observed, its nature as a genuine tetraquark is favored. The strong decay patterns shown here will be helpful to the experimental search for these exotic states.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures and 9 tables. Accepted by Eur. Phys. J.
