"Quality of Match for Statistical Matches Used in the 1995 and 2005 LIMEW Estimates for Great Britain"

The quality of match of four statistical matches used in the LIMEW estimates for Great Britain for 1995 and 2005 is described. The first match combines the fifth (1995) wave of the British Household Panel Survey (BHPS) with the 1995–96 Family Resources Survey (FRS). The second match combines the 1995 time-use module of the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys Omnibus Survey with the 1995-96 FRS. The third match combines the 15th wave (2005) of the BHPS with the 2005 FRS. The fourth match combines the 2000 United Kingdom Time Use Survey with the 2005 FRS. In each case, the alignment of the two datasets is examined, after which various aspects of the match quality are described. In each case, the matches are of high quality, given the nature of the source datasets.Statistical Matching; Wealth Distribution; Time Use; Household Production; United Kingdom; LIMEW

Permissiveness toward illegal actions in Uruguay Are Belief in God, income and education relevant?

This paper assesses the willingness to justify illegal actions and whether this attitude has changed between 1995 and 2005. Our dataset are 1995 and 2005 waves of World Values Survey. Permissiveness or the willingness to justify illegal actions is a cultural phenomenon that can be defined in several ways depending on societies and people. Hence, we consider firstly the four dimensions available (accepting bribes, evading taxes, etc.), and we estimated multivariate regressions. Secondly, from principal component analysis, we generated a new variable "willingness to justify” as a weighted average of the previous dimensions. We find that socio-demographic variables such as age and education reduce permissiveness, political affiliation with the Center hikes it, being employed full time reduces permissiveness while income has the opposite effect, even when religiosity reduces permissiveness, beliefs in God do not matter, living in Montevideo reduces permissiveness and finally, between 1995 and 2005 the permissiveness among Uruguayans has changed, the model show that the probability of being permissive is significantly higher in 2005 than in 1995permissiveness, illegal action, microeconomic behavior, Uruguay.

China's Experience Under the Multifiber Arrangement (MFA) and the Agreement on Textiles and Clothing (ATC)

This paper analyzes China's experience under U.S. apparel and textile quotas. It makes use of a unique new database that tracks U.S. trading partners' performance under the quota regimes established by the global Multifiber Arrangement (1974 to 1995) and subsequent Agreement on Textiles and Clothing (1995 to 2005). We find that China was relatively more constrained under these regimes than other countries and that, as quotas were lifted, China's exports grew disproportionately. When the ATC finally ended in 2005, China's exports surged while those from nearly all other regions fell.

Bucharest Stock Exchange Evolution November 1995 - November 2005

Bucharest Stock Exchange was opened for transactions at the end of November 1995. Since than 10 years have passed – and the end of November 2005 marked the first decade of Bucharest Stock Exchange contemporaneous existence. But the event passed almost unnoticed, not even a press release on Bucharest Stock Exchange official site could be found. Despite this silent anniversary, the main Romanian stock market could be proud of most of its achievements in these 10 years. This paper tries to present the Bucharest Stock Exchange evolution during a decade, along with its potential for development in the years to come.stock exchange, evolution, capitalization, indexes

Spatial Synchrony in Wisconsin Karner Blue (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) Populations

We analyzed geographic patterns of Karner blue (Lycaeides melissa samuelis Nabokov, Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) population fluctuations in summer broods in central and northwestern Wisconsin and spring+summer broods in central Wisconsin. We removed possible effects of population trends by analyzing residuals from a regression of each site’s population index vs. year. We then calculated correlation coefficients (r) of these residuals for all site-pairs separately for 1992- 2005 (26 sites, N = 325 site-pairs), 1995-2005 (21 sites, N = 210), and 1998-2005 (14 sites, N = 91). We analyzed patterns in these r values relative to distance between sites using correlations vs. distance and using pairwise comparisons of different distance categories (0-3 km up to 223-264 km apart). Karner blues showed significant (P \u3c 0.05) population synchrony over all distances. Spatial autocorrelation was strongest among sites \u3c3 km apart, then gradually leveled off at greater distances. Statistical power increased when we added three years but the number of sites did not decrease greatly (1995-2005 vs. 1998-2005 analyses) and when using an annual index combining spring+summer indices instead of just summer. The spatial autocorrelation extending over the entire study region suggests that environmental factors like weather provide some synchronization of Karner blue populations. Their much higher local synchrony is consistent with the species’ short dispersal distance. Their local and regional spatial autocorrelation increases the likelihood of correlated local extinctions during low fluctuation broods, especially when these coincide with unfavorable weather or adverse habitat events

Automatic water sampler and a U. S. Geological Survey gauging station were established in 1995 on the main stem of the Illinois River at the Arkansas Highway 59 Bridge. Since that time, continuous stage and discharge measurements and water quality sampling have been used to determine pollutant concentrations and loads in the Arkansas portion of the Illinois River. This report represents the results from the measurement and sampling by the Arkansas Water Resources Center -Water Quality Lab for January 1, 2005 to December 31, 2005
