The paper addresses issues related to determining the typical signs of the Mongolian culture in the territory of the Jurchen settlements in Primorye. Research of the settlements dated back to the period of the Yuan Dynasty located in the territory of the Far East is a highly topical issue. Until recently, green glazed ceramics and roof tiles with triangular drips and decorative dragon ornaments have been considered as remarkable features for defining the Yuan cultural layer on the archaeological sites of Primorye. The archaeological material collected at Jurchen settlements has proved that these attributes are not conclusive in identifying the Mongol period. Nowadays, the only artifact that can be regarded as feasible evidence of the Mongolian activity in the territory of Primorye in the Yuan period is a bronze weight inscribed the Kublai Khan’s era name that was excavated in the 1970s. Considering that the information about this find has not yet been published, the goals of the research featured in this article are to introduce into scientific discourse new epigraphical data, and raise an issue of determining the markers indicative of the Yuan Dynasty at the sites of the Eastern Xia State. According to the written sources, after the capture of the state founder in 1233, the Mongols moved away and left the state under control of a hundred odd equestrians. The Eastern Xia became the Mongols’ vassal state and remained in this state for many years. When the Yuan Dynasty was established, the Mongols cancelled the former Jurchen administrative units in the invaded territories of the Liaodong Peninsula and Primorye, and the area was now under direct governance of the Yuan Dynasty. In Primorye, it presumably was the period when the Mongols began to build military settlements that represented a new type of fortification constructions. Nowadays, the archaeological site of Batjuki can be regarded as an example of such type of constructions. An analysis of the studied finds demonstrates that the attribution of archaeological material to indicators of Mongolian presence requires well-dated artifacts, which include epigraphical objects
