Goethe-Motive auf Sammelbildern : eine Dokumentation ; Hector Berlioz ; Faust's Verdammung (Liebigbilder)
Unter den Liebigbildern, den berühmtesten und am weitesten verbreiteten Sammelbildern, erschien 1911 eine Serie von Illustrationen zur Symphoniekantate „Fausts Verdammung“ von Hector Berlioz (1803-1869). Für Berlioz, „eine künstlerische Vielfachbegabung von äußerstem Anspruch und Raffinement“ (Hans Joachim Kreutzer), wurde Goethes Faust zu einem entscheidenden Bildungserlebnis. Sein Frühwerk, „Huit scènes de Faust“ ließ er Goethe zukommen, aber der wandte sich an Zelter, der ein vernichtendes Urteil abgab. Mit „La damnation de Faust“, 1869 uraufgeführt, schuf Berlioz eine eigenständige romantische Deutung des Faust-Mythos. Das Goethezeitportal publiziert diese Bilder mit Hinweisen und Dokumenten zur Entstehung und Aufnahme des Werkes
