Du réel freudien au Réel lacanien : (Psych)analyser l’oeuvre de Quentin Dupieux

Abstract

Si le lien de Dupieux au surréalisme et au nonsense — et par leur biais à l’inconscient et à son étrangeté radicale — font de son cinéma un support privilégié des études psychanalytiques, ses films manifestent pourtant de façon paradoxale une quête obsessionnelle du réel et de la banalité la plus ordinaire. Cette contradiction apparente n’en est plus une dès lors que l’on revient à Freud puis à Lacan. La quête de l’ordinaire peut dans un premier temps être comprise à la lumière de Freud qui, par le biais de son concept « d’inquiétant familier », nous permet d’appréhender la façon dont l’étrangeté surgit de la répétition et de la quotidienneté, comme un retour du refoulé. Revenir à Lacan permet ensuite d’interroger plus profondément cette quête, en mesurant l’écart entre le Réel, cette chose impossible à laquelle les personnages de Dupieux ne cessent de se cogner, et la réalité du monde phénoménal. C’est bien au premier que s’intéresse Dupieux, comme à un mystère, une béance, un trou autour duquel sa filmographie ne cesse de graviter pour en sonder toute la profondeur nonsensique.While Dupieux’s connection to hypnosis, surrealism, and nonsense—and, through them, to the unconscious and its radical strangeness—make his cinema a privileged object of psychoanalytic inquiry, his films nonetheless paradoxically display an obsessive quest for the real and for the most ordinary banality. This apparent contradiction dissolves once one returns to Freud and then to Lacan. The pursuit of the ordinary can initially be understood in light of Freud’s concept of the “uncanny,” which allows us to grasp how strangeness emerges from repetition and everyday life, as a return of the repressed. Turning to Lacan then makes it possible to probe this quest more deeply, by measuring the gap between the real—that impossible thing against which Dupieux’s characters constantly collide—and the reality of the phenomenal world. It is the former that truly concerns Dupieux: the real as a mystery, a void, a gap around which his filmography endlessly gravitates, seeking to plumb its full nonsensical depth
