Abstract

This research delves into part of the creative activity of the French artist Anna Quinquaud, developed within the context of the second colonial empires and born out of the three trips she made to the African continent between 1925 and 1932. It focuses on works that featured anonymous populations as protagonists, as well as their critical reception. Through a postcolonial lens, the artist’s life experience during those three years of coexistence with native people, narrated or disseminated through interviews, will be analyzed. It will be examined how her hegemonic position towards the subalterns shifted, as well as the admiration and empathy she demonstrated towards its people, and the reflections and changes that emerged in her vision of the colonial process.
