Abstract

Author argue against the Zenon Kałuża’s conviction that the beast of Wawel (Cracow), hidden in the Master Vincent’s Chronicle (end of 12th c.) behind the name of holophagus, is, indeed, not a drake, but a humanoid monster. The beast of Wawel, however, fits in very well together with the other representatives of numerous medieval drake family and the standard narrative pattern of fight with dragon was used by chronicler in the given tale.Autor polemizuje z przekonaniem Zenona Kałuży, że bestia wawelska, ukryta w Kronice Mistrza Wincentego (koniec XII w.) pod nazwą holofag, nie jest w istocie smokiem, lecz humanoidalnym potworem. Bestia wawelska bardzo dobrze komponuje się jednak z innymi przedstawicielami licznej średniowiecznej rodziny smokowatych, a standardowy schemat narracyjny walki ze smokiem został wykorzystany przez kronikarza w jego opowieści
