El programa Barraca XXI en el Hospital Psiquiátrico de Conxo

Abstract

In April 2024, the Conxo Psychiatric Hospital and the SGAE Foundation (the Spanish Society of Authors and Publishers) launched the Barraca XXI Program, a sociocultural initiative aimed at improving the care for people with severe mental illness by organising workshops involving creative theatre, music, and audio-visual arts. The project sought to encourage users’ active participation, to promote creativity, and to transform the institution from a more humane and community-based perspective. Over the course of the project, significant therapeutic benefits were observed, such as the strengthening of group bonds, the development of artistic and social skills, and more involvement of all of the patients in their recovery process. The program also contributed to opening the hospital to the general public, reducing the stigma associated with mental illness. The experience has been rewarding, and its continuation is being considered as part of a more inclusive and person-centred healthcare model.En abril de 2024, el Hospital Psiquiátrico de Conxo y la Fundación SGAE iniciaron el Programa Barraca XXI, una iniciativa sociocultural dirigida a mejorar la atención de personas con trastorno mental grave mediante talleres creativos de teatro, música y audiovisual. El proyecto buscó fomentar la participación activa de los usuarios, promover la creatividad y transformar la institución desde una perspectiva más humana y comunitaria. A lo largo del proyecto se observaron beneficios terapéuticos significativos, como el fortalecimiento del vínculo grupal, el desarrollo de habilidades sociales y artísticas, y una mayor implicación de los pacientes en su proceso de recuperación. El programa también contribuyó a abrir el hospital a la ciudadanía, reduciendo el estigma asociado a la enfermedad mental. La experiencia ha sido enriquecedora y se plantea su continuidad como parte de un modelo asistencial más inclusivo y centrado en la persona
