Operationalization of care when the ground ambulance driver is a Prehospital Care Technologist.

Abstract

En ese momento, la normativa colombiana no especifica la operatividad del personal en ambulancias más allá de requerir un curso de primeros auxilios para el conductor o de primer respondiente. Sin embargo, se reconoció que los TAPH poseían habilidades relevantes en la atención prehospitalaria, las cuales podían mejorar de manera significativa la calidad de atención a ciertos pacientes. El objetivo general determinó las ventajas y desventajas de esta inclusión, junto con unos objetivos específicos más profundizados. Así, se empleó un enfoque cualitativo de recolección documental exploratoria, donde se recopilaron datos demográficos, laborales y normativos. Además, se comparó la operatividad en otros países donde los conductores de ambulancias estaban capacitados en atención prehospitalaria. La metodología implicó realizar una revisión documental para recopilar información sobre la normativa colombiana y la operatividad en otros países. Se promovió la capacitación del personal prehospitalario para mejorar la atención en salud y de este modo, contar con una mejor operatividad en las ambulancias en Bogotá. Si los conductores eran personal de salud especializado, la implementación de un equipo mejor capacitado bajo este enfoque prehospitalario permitiría obtener resultados significativos con una atención eficaz y precisa para un mejor desarrollo en las actividades. No obstante, se encontraron ciertas limitantes para la implementación y el desarrollo de esta estrategia tanto a nivel nacional como departamental, lo que hizo complejo llevar a cabo su inclusión. En conclusión, se destacó la importancia de un TAPH como conductor de ambulancia con formación en salud en Bogotá, ya que esto podría mejorar la calidad de la atención en emergencias. Este enfoque integral no solo abarcaba la conducción, sino también la asistencia al personal de salud. Sin embargo, las regulaciones nacionales limitaban el entrenamiento del conductor a habilidades básicas, lo que afectaba la efectividad del equipo de ambulancia.The research project focused on evaluating the feasibility and implications of Technologists in Prehospital Care (TAPH) as ground ambulance drivers in Bogotá. At the time, Colombian regulations did not specify the operability of ambulance personnel beyond requiring a first aid course for the driver or first responder. However, it was recognized that TAPHs possessed relevant prehospital care skills that could significantly improve the quality of care for certain patients. The general objective identified the advantages and disadvantages of this inclusion, along with more in-depth specific objectives. Thus, a qualitative approach of exploratory documentary collection was used, where demographic, labor and regulatory data were collected. In addition, a comparison was made with other countries where ambulance drivers were trained in prehospital care. The methodology involved a documentary review to gather information on Colombian regulations and the operation in other countries. The training of prehospital personnel was promoted to improve health care and, thus, to improve the operability of ambulances in Bogota. If the drivers were specialized health personnel, the implementation of a better trained team under this prehospital approach would allow to obtain significant results with an efficient and accurate care for a better development in the activities. However, certain limitations were found for the implementation and development of this strategy at both national and departmental level, which made its inclusion complex. In conclusion, the importance of the Prehospital Care Technologist as an ambulance driver with health training in Bogota was highlighted, as this could improve the quality of emergency care. This comprehensive approach encompassed not only driving, but also assistance to health personnel.
