Gestión estratégica y seguridad turística en la provincia de Galápagos

Abstract

Introduction: The Galápagos Islands, renowned for their unique biodiversity and ecological sensitivity, face significant challenges in managing tourism security. These challenges include deficiencies in infrastructure, staff training, and emergency management, which are essential elements for ensuring the destination's sustainability and competitiveness. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between strategic management and tourism security in the Galápagos Islands, focusing on the dimensions of safety perception, infrastructure, emergency management, and staff training, in order to propose strategies to enhance the tourist experience and destination resilience. Methodology: The research design was non-experimental and cross-sectional, employing a mixed-methods approach. Surveys using a Likert scale were administered to 100 tourists and 30 public officials, complemented by interviews with key stakeholders. The reliability of the instrument was validated through Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The data were analyzed using SPSS software with descriptive statistics to evaluate the relationship between the variables. Results: Findings revealed that while institutions have strategic plans, there are shortcomings in resource allocation and staff training, which negatively impact tourists' safety perception. The main weaknesses are linked to insufficient infrastructure and a lack of risk communication. Additionally, weak correlations were identified between strategic planning and the evaluated dimensions of tourism security. Conclusion: The study concludes that strengthening strategic management in the Galápagos Islands is imperative through investments in infrastructure, the implementation of monitoring systems, the creation of continuous training programs, and the reinforcement of biosecurity. Metodología: El diseño de la investigación fue no experimental, transversal, utilizando un enfoque mixto. Se aplicaron encuestas bajo una escala de Likert a 100 turistas y 30 funcionarios públicos, y se realizaron entrevistas a actores clave. La confiabilidad del instrumento fue validada mediante el coeficiente alfa de Cronbach. Los datos fueron analizados con el software SPSS utilizando estadística descriptiva para evaluar la relación entre las variables. Resultados: Se evidenció que, aunque las instituciones cuentan con planes estratégicos, existen carencias en la asignación de recursos y la capacitación del personal, lo cual afecta la percepción de seguridad de los turistas. Las principales debilidades están relacionadas con la infraestructura insuficiente y la falta de comunicación de riesgos. Además, se identificaron correlaciones débiles entre la planificación estratégica y las dimensiones de seguridad turística evaluadas. Conclusión: El estudio concluye que es imprescindible fortalecer la gestión estratégica en Galápagos mediante inversiones en infraestructura, la implementación de sistemas de monitoreo, la creación de programas de capacitación continua y el fortalecimiento de la bioseguridad.
