Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the experiences of student volunteers who continuously participated in a community café run by a university with a nursing faculty. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with six students who had participated in the community café as volunteers at least twice, and data/responses were analyzed qualitatively and inductively. The results revealed the following four categories: “Gaining interpersonal skills through communication with local residents,” “Building new relationships within the university,” “Being able to work while feeling support from friends, other students, and faculty,” and “Being able to recognize the value of social contribution activities”. It is suggested that by applying these results to cafe management and volunteer recruitment methods, the community café can become more appealingto both participants and student volunteers.3departmental bulletin pape
