Veliki Bečkerek district headquarters camps

Abstract

The work titled "Camps of the Veliki Bečkerek District Principality" is a collective document that includes the testimonies, names, and photographs of prisoners from the camp established by the Veliki Bečkerek District Principality during World War II. Until now, various sections of texts related to this topic were dispersed and scattered among the "Chronicles" of the surrounding areas. This is the first work to gather all these stories and compile them into a cohesive narrative. The book serves as a chronicle of a time that reminds us of our collective memory and highlights how easily we forget the events of the past. I believe that only what is documented remains permanent in our consciousness. This serves to remind us and warn us to reflect on these events and to honour those who sacrificed their lives for our present. Within this volume, all significant events, places, and names encountered - which influenced the nature of the Banat camps - are mentioned. The book contains the names of several thousand detainees, over a hundred photographs, and images of both the Jewish camp and the communist camp located on Tsar Dušan Street, extending to the camp outposts on Macahumka and Ostrovacka Ada
