A Multiple Case Study in Focus on Catch- up Friday: Mathematical Learning

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to compare and contrast the experiences, coping mechanism and insights of teachers, students and parents on participating Catch-up Friday Mathematical intervention. This study adopted a qualitative research design, utilizing a multiple case study approach. As noted by Rashid et. al. (2019), qualitative case studies offer a descriptive analysis of specific events within particular contexts. The following major findings are, the Catch-up Friday program enhances the mathematical proficiency and problem-solving skills of the learners, from a novice in terms of mathematical skills the learners are now equipped with problem-solving skills, also it fosters bond and connection among learners, teachers and parents. However, the intervention has it own flaws such as limited of accessible materials, dealing with diverse learners, and the struggle of the parents in terms of financial aspects in supporting their children. The study concluded that the learner’s mathematical proficiency enhances with the implementation of the Catch-up Friday program. Also, the teachers teaching approaches improved in order to attain the diverse needs of the students. However, the lack of learning resrources, preparation challenges and financial difficulties held back the full potential of the mathematical learning intervention
