Between Pages and Scars: Violence against Women in O Peso do Pássaro Morto and in Brazilian Daily Life

Abstract

A obra de Aline Bei, intitulada O peso do pássaro morto, é um exemplo de como a literatura pode ser usada para reflexionar e debater sobre a violência na sociedade brasileira. É possível discutir sobre questões éticas, vulnerabilidade e força, propondo uma ressignificação de experiências de dor, além de sugerir caminhos de resistência. Para isso, tem-se em vista uma abordagem interpretativa, fundamentada em teorias de Rita Segato e Heleieth Saffioti, conhecidas por seus estudos sobre gênero e violência. Além disso, busca-se incorporar à discussão algumas das contribuições de Antonio Candido, cuja crítica literária lida com a representação da realidade social em textos literários.The book by Aline Bei, entitled O peso do pássaro morto (The weight of the dead bird), exemplifies how literature can reflect on and debate violence in Brazilian society. It is possible to discuss ethical issues, vulnerability, and strength, proposing a re-signification of experiences of pain, suggesting paths of resistance. To accomplish this, we follow an interpretative approach based on the theories of Rita Segato and Heleieth Saffioti, writers known for their studies on gender and violence. We also seek to incorporate some of the contributions of Antonio Candido, whose literary criticism deals with the representation of social reality in literary texts. &nbsp
