«Å lengte etter noe man ikke vet hva er». En undersøkelse av individualitet og relasjonell avhengighet i Cora Sandels Alberte og Jakob (1926), gjennom affektteoretisk analyse og K.E. Løgstrups etiske litteratursyn.

Abstract

I denne masteroppgaven undersøkes hvordan følelser blir fremstilt i romanen Alberte og Jakob av Cora Sandel (1926). Handlingen i romanen skjer rundt år 1900, og tar for seg ungjenta Albertes forsøk på å frigjøre seg fra de rigide sosiale normene og konvensjonene i embetsmannstand-familien hun tilhører og småbyen hun bor i. Målet med undersøkelsen er å gi et forslag til hvordan en skjønnlitterær tekst kan brukes i undervisningen i norskfaget på ungdomsskolen gjennom bruk av affektiv lesning støttet av K.E. Løgstrups etiske syn på romanen. Oppgavens metode er nærlesing, med et spesielt fokus på følelser slik vi finner det innenfor affektiv narratologi. Analysen er forankret i affektteori, og begrepene emosjonelle rom, affektive impulskilder og ambivalens slik de blir presentert i P. T. Andersens bok Fortelling og følelse: En studie i affektiv narratologi (2016) er sentrale. Analysen blir supplert med en drøfting hvor funnene i analysen settes i sammenheng med K. E. Løgstrups (1956) etiske og relasjonelle perspektiv. Funnene i analysen viser at den dominerende følelsen hos Alberte er ambivalens. Følelsen blir skapt av både indre og ytre påvirkning, og blir derfor gjenkjennbar på tvers av tid, sted og kjønn. Ved å bruke Løgstrups begreper ´den etiske fordring ‘og ´interdependens´ vist gjennom ´tillit´, skapes et didaktisk rom for litteraturfaglig arbeid, og for utforskning av identitetsutvikling og relasjonelle forhold mellom individ og samfunn. Hovedpoenget i oppgaven er at et fokus på hvordan følelser fremstilles i teksten, kan bidra til åpne den opp for elever i dag, og skape et relevant didaktisk rom.The title of this master’s thesis is: «To long for something one does not know what is». An Examination of Individuality and Relational Dependency in Cora Sandel's Alberte and Jakob (1926), through Affect Theory Analysis and K.E. Løgstrup's Ethical Literary Perspective. This master's thesis examines how emotions are depicted in the novel Alberte & Jakob written by Cora Sandel (1926). The story takes place around the year 1900 and concentrates on the young girl Alberte’s attempt to free herself from the rigid social norms and conventions in the civil service-family she belongs to and the small city in which she lives. The thesis attempts to bring forward a proposal regarding how a fictional text can be used in Norwegian subject teaching at the lower secondary level using affective reading supported by K. E. Løgstrup’s ethical literary perspective. The methodology of the thesis is close reading, with a particular focus on emotions as it is being found within affective narratology. The analysis is anchored in affect theory, and the terms emotional spaces, stimulus source and ambivalence as presented in P. T. Andersen’s book Fortelling og følelse: En studie i affektiv narratology (2016) (Story and Emotion: A Study in Affective Narratology), are central. The analysis is being complimented by a discussion where the finding in the analysis is being seen in the lights of K. E. Løgstrup’s (1956) ethical and relational perspective. The findings in the analysis shows that Alberte’s dominant emotion is ambivalence, and that the emotion is being shaped through both internal and external influence, which makes the emotion recognizable across time, space and gender. By using Løgstrup’s concepts ´the ethical demand´ and ´interdependence´ shown through ´trust´, a didactical space in which literary studies work and exploration of identity development and social interaction between the individual and relational can be explored. The thesis’ main point is that a focus on how feelings are being depicted in the novel, can contribute to opening the novel up for today’s students, and create a relevant didactical space
