Percepción de prácticas parentales y habilidades sociales en adolescentes

Abstract

The COVID-19 confinement adversely affected the psycho-emotional aspects of individuals, with perceived parenting styles playing a crucial role in the development or deficiency of social skills. This study assessed the relationship between perceived parenting practices and social skills in adolescents of both genders at a public high school in Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo, Mexico (n = 290, aged between 15 and 20 years (M = 16.4862, SD = .98509). Employing a quantitative approach, self-report digital instruments were utilised to measure psycho-emotional variables such as emotional intelligence, anxiety, depression, and technostress. The findings revealed significant correlations, indicating that perceived parenting styles (negligent, democratic, authoritarian, and permissive) influence social development and the other variables assessed. This underscores the necessity of adopting parenting styles that align with family needs to foster healthy social development. Longitudinal studies investigating long-term relationships in cohorts that have not experienced adolescence in confinement are considered.El confinamiento por Covid-19 afectó negativamente los aspectos psicoemocionales de las personas, siendo los estilos de crianza percibidos un factor clave en el desarrollo o el déficit de habilidades sociales. Este estudio evaluó la relación entre la percepción de prácticas parentales y las habilidades sociales en adolescentes de ambos sexos, en una preparatoria pública ubicada en Pachuca de Soto, Hidalgo, México (n = 290, entre 15 y 20 años (M = 16.4862, DE = .98509). Mediante un enfoque cuantitativo, se aplicaron instrumentos digitales de autoinforme para medir variables psicoemocionales como inteligencia emocional, ansiedad, depresión y tecnoestrés. Los resultados revelaron correlaciones significativas, mostrando que los estilos de crianza percibidos (negligente, democrático, autoritario y permisivo) influyen en el desarrollo social y las demás variables analizadas. Esto resalta la importancia de adoptar estilos parentales que se ajusten a las necesidades familiares para promover un desarrollo social saludable. Se considera realizar estudios longitudinales que exploren las relaciones a largo plazo en cohortes que no hayan transitado la adolescencia en confinamiento
