Turnover Factors of Selected Groups of Employees in Small Independent Theatre Ensembles

Abstract

This bachelor’s thesis explores the factors influencing the turnover of production managers in small independent theatre ensembles, specifically within the immersive theatre scene in Prague. The aim is to identify the causes of turnover rates in these roles and propose concrete measures to enhance staff retention. The theoretical part introduces the concept of employee turnover and related topics such as motivation, commitment, engagement, and staff stabilization, while also reflecting on the specifics of the independent theatre environment, the role of theatre production managers and self-employed individuals in independent culture, and the characteristics of immersive theatre. The practical part is a comparative study of three subjects and is based on an analysis of semi-structured interviews with production managers from selected independent theatre ensembles: Depresivní děti touží po penězích, Tygr v tísni, and Pomezí. The findings reveal structural, personnel, and financial factors impacting job stability and provide recommendations for improving organizational practices.Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá faktory ovlivňujícími fluktuaci produkčních v malých nezávislých divadelních souborech, konkrétně v oblasti pražského imerzivního divadla. Cílem práce je identifikovat příčiny fluktuace na těchto pozicích a navrhnout konkrétní opatření pro stabilizaci pracovníků. Teoretická část představuje koncept fluktuace a související fenomény jako motivaci, oddanost, angažovanost a stabilizaci zaměstnanců, přičemž reflektuje i specifika prostředí nezávislého divadla, práce divadelního produkčního a OSVČ v nezávislé kultuře i charakteristiku imerzivního divadla. Praktická část je komparativní studií tří subjektů a vychází z analýzy polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s produkčními vybraných nezávislých divadelních souborů: Depresivní děti touží po penězích, Tygr v tísni a Pomezí. Výsledky ukazují na strukturální, personální a finanční faktory ovlivňující pracovní stabilitu a navrhují možnosti zlepšení organizačních podmínek
