KOPENAWA E O PROBLEMA DA ESCRITA

Abstract

The article is intended to be an introduction to the book The Falling Sky, the result of joint work between the Yanomami shaman Davi Kopenawa and the Franco-Moroccan ethnologist Bruce Albert. My approach will adopt as a guiding principle the critical position that the shaman assumes in relation to writing. As I will try to show, the habit of writing is something that, in the shaman's point of view, contributes to our culture – called 'white culture' – to become so ignorant about the native cultures of the forest. During the course, in some fundamental theses of the anthropologists Claude Lévi-Strauss and Eduardo Viveiros de Castro will be evoked from which I will try to outline an answer to the problem.O artigo se propõe a ser uma introdução ao livro A queda do céu, fruto do trabalho conjunto entre o xamã yanomami Davi Kopenawa e o etnólogo franco-marroquino Bruce Albert. Em minha abordagem, adotarei como fio condutor a posição crítica que o xamã assume diante da escrita. Como tentarei mostrar, o hábito de escrever é algo que, do ponto de vista do xamã, contribui para que a nossa cultura – denominada ‘cultura branca’ – se torne tão ignorante a respeito das culturas originárias da floresta. Durante o percurso, serão evocadas algumas teses fundamentais dos antropólogos Claude Lévi-Strauss e Eduardo Viveiros de Castro a partir das quais tentarei esboçar uma resposta ao problema.
