APLICAÇÕES CONTEMPORÂNEAS DA SOCIOLOGIA DA ESCOLA DE CHICAGO NA ANÁLISE DO FENÔMENO CRIMINOLÓGICO

Abstract

The present research focuses on the study of methods and techniques developed by the Chicago Sociological School and their contemporary application in the analysis of the criminological phenomenon. The Chicago School, founded in the first half of the 20th century, revolutionized criminology by introducing an empirical and sociological approach to the study of crime and delinquency. Its methods highlight the importance of understanding the social and physical environment where crime occurs, emphasizing the need for the researcher to immerse themselves in the investigated context to obtain a deeper and more detailed understanding. The main objective of this work is to analyze the current applicability of this school's methodology, which advocates for the researcher’s immersion in the social environment being investigated. To this end, some concepts of the Criminology of Place and its role as an ecological branch, which has updated part of the theoretical framework of the Chicago School, will be presented. The research adopts an inductive reasoning, using socio-legal-critical and descriptive-diagnostic legal procedural methods. The research technique employed corresponds to a comprehensive literature review.A presente pesquisa tem como temática o estudo dos métodos e técnicas desenvolvidos pela Escola Sociológica de Chicago e seu emprego contemporâneo na análise do fenômeno criminológico. A Escola de Chicago, fundada na primeira metade do século XX, revolucionou a criminologia ao introduzir uma abordagem empírica e sociológica para o estudo do crime e da delinquência. Seus métodos destacam a importância de se entender o ambiente social e físico onde o crime ocorre, enfatizando a necessidade de inserção do pesquisador no contexto investigado para dele obter uma compreensão mais profunda e detalhada. O objetivo principal deste trabalho é analisar a aplicabilidade atual da metodologia dessa escola, que preconiza a inserção do pesquisador no meio social que está sendo investigado. Para isso, serão apresentados alguns conceitos da Criminologia do Lugar e seu papel como vertente ecológica, que atualizou parte do arcabouço teórico da Escola de Chicago. A pesquisa adota um raciocínio indutivo, utilizando métodos de procedimento sociojurídico-crítico e jurídico descritivo-diagnóstico.
