Hacia una construcción sostenible en Panamá: análisis de certificaciones existentes

Abstract

The construction sector is one of the main contributors to environmental impact, 34% of energy consumption and 37% of CO2 emissions worldwide come from this activity. The use of certifications such as LEED, EDGE, WELL and FITWEL in buildings or spaces, whether to be built or existing, promotes sustainability in construction and encourages developers of other projects to be part of this initiative. These methodologies range from construction with materials that are sustainable and that during their production there is a reduction in the energy with which they are elaborated, transported, as well as that their operation guarantees a lower consumption of both water and energy resources and healthier spaces for their occupants. This article is based on a literature review of the sustainable construction certifications that operate in the Republic of Panama, as well as a comparison between them and the system of points with which each of the certifications are awarded. It also includes a compiled list of projects that to date have an international sustainable construction certificate such as LEED, EDGE, FITWEL and WELL in Panama.El sector de la construcción es uno de los principales contribuyentes al impacto ambiental, el 34% del consumo de energía y el 37% de emisiones de CO2 a nivel mundial son provenientes de esta actividad. El empleo de certificaciones como LEED, EDGE, WELL y FITWEL en las edificaciones o espacios ya sean por construir o existentes, promueven la sostenibilidad en la construcción e incitan a los desarrolladores de otros proyectos a formar parte de esta iniciativa. Estas metodologías abarcan desde la construcción con materiales que sean sostenibles y que durante su producción exista una reducción de la energía con los cuales son elaborados, transportados, como también que si operación garantice un menor consumo de recursos tanto hídricos como energéticos y espacios más saludables para sus ocupantes. Este artículo se basa en una revisión bibliográfica de las certificaciones de construcción sostenible que operan en la República de Panamá, así como una comparación entre estas y cómo es el sistema de puntos con los que se otorgan cada una de las certificaciones. Se incluye, además, una lista compilada de proyectos que a la fecha cuentan con un certificado internacional de construcción sostenible como LEED, EDGE, FITWEL y WELL en Panamá
