Selected aspects of Polish-Ukrainian relations

Abstract

W artykule zostały przedstawione wybrane aspekty stosunków polsko-ukraińskich po II wojnie światowej. Ukraina przez długi okres postrzegana była jako źródło zagrożeń dla naszego kraju. W obecnych czasach odbierana jest przez Polaków jako jeden z gwarantów bezpieczeństwa. Pomiędzy Polską a Ukrainą na przestrzeni wieków można zaobserwować zmienne relacje (ocieplenie, ochłodzenie). W przeszłości na relacje polsko-ukraińskie miały wpływ m.in. wydarzenia mające miejsce na Wołyniu w okresie II wojny światowej oraz sytuacja mniejszości polskiej na Ukrainie. Ważnym aspektem bylo przystąpienie Polski do Strefy Schengen. Na relacje między tymi krajami miały wpływ także Pomarańczowa Rewolucja oraz przyznanie obu państwom statusu gospodarza Mistrzostw Europy w Piłce Nożnej EURO 2012, które pod względem organizacyjnym okazało się sukcesem. W artykule zostały przeanalizowane wybrane literaturę naukowa, popularna, a także wykorzystywane z pewną ostrożnością źródła internetowe. Przy ocenie wiarygodności zamieszczanych w cyberprzestrzeni informacji, publikacji i ocenie profesjonalności stron kierowano się wyborem serwisów cieszących się ogólnym zaufaniem z pominięciem blogów i forów internetowych, które zdaniem autora mogą zawierać niekontrolowane, nieobiektywne treści i podejmować próby manipulacji.This article presents selected aspects of Polish-Ukrainian relations after World War II. For a long time, Ukraine was perceived as a source of threats for our country. Nowadays, it is seen by the Polish people as one of the guarantor of safety. Changeable relations (warming and cooling) have been observed between Poland and Ukraine over the centuries. In the past, the events, which took place in Volhynia during Words War II, and the situation of the Polish minority had, among others, the influence on the Polish-Ukrainian relations. Poland’s accession to the Schengen area is an important aspect. The Orange Revolution and the fact of awarding both countries with the status of the Host of European Football Championship EURO 2012, which was a success from the organisational point of view, also had the influence on the relations between these two countries. For the analysis presented here selected academic and popular press and carefully chosen Internet sources have been used. While evaluating the credibility of the information and the publications posted in cyberspace and in evaluating the professionalism of the parties, the autor followed the selection of generally trusted services, excluding blogs and internet forums, which could, in the author’s opinion, contain uncontrolled, non-objective content and which could contain attempts of manipulation
