Foreign body in the external auditory canal. Case report

Abstract

Foreign bodies in the natural orifices of the head and neck is a frequent problem observed in otorhinolaryngology consultations and emergency services at hospitals and private clinics. Foreign bodies are introduced intentionally or accidentally. In the present clinical case, we discuss the story of a 5-year-old child who introduced bicycle spoke nipple in to the ear. Extraction was performed by washing, without any complications.It is a rare and unusual object. Hence the importance of taking into account all objects existing in the home that can potentially become foreign bodies, especially if there is a car or bicycle repair site in the house. Never leave small objects accessible to children. Always bear in mind that any object, however small, deserves the child's curiosity and potentially will end up in one of the head and neck holes.Corpos estranhos em orifícios naturais de cabeça e pescoço é um problema frequente observado em consultas de otorrinolaringologia e serviços de emergência de hospitais e clínicas privadas. Corpos estranhos são introduzidos intencionalmente ou acidentalmente. No presente caso clínico, discutimos a história de uma criança de 5 anos que apresentou o mamilo falante de bicicleta no ouvido. A extração foi realizada por lavagem, sem complicações. É um objeto raro e incomum. Daí a importância de se levar em consideração todos os objetos existentes na casa que podem potencialmente se tornar corpos estranhos, especialmente se houver uma oficina de automóveis ou bicicletas na casa. Nunca deixe pequenos objetos acessíveis às crianças. Lembre-se sempre de que qualquer objeto, por menor que seja, merece a curiosidade da criança e, potencialmente, acabará em um dos orifícios da cabeça e do pescoço
