QUEM FALA DE MANGUEZAL? LEVANTAMENTO DE DADOS NOS JORNAIS FOLHA DE S.PAULO E BRASIL DE FATO: Who is talking about mangroves? Data collection from the newspapers "FOLHA DE S.PAULO" and "BRASIL DE FATO"

Abstract

Mangroves are located in intertidal plains with sensitive and peculiar ecological dynamics, which results in ecosystem services, such as provision of food and protection of coastal areas. Despite its importance, Brazil is one of the hotspots of mangrove loss. In this context, media can shape the popular imaginary and intensify, maintain or oppose to issues involving mangroves. A way of doing that is listening or not to the many voices involved. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to analyze the newspaper’s publications source in which mangrove is central in the framework. We collected articles from the newspapers Brasil de Fato and Folha de S.Paulo published in 2020 and selected those which met the research objective. Subsequently, we classified their included sources and quotes. We delimited 04 articles, in which we found 27 quotes from 09 different sources. We grouped them into Specialized, Institucional, Official and Referencial. While Brasil de Fato included a majority of Institutional sources, Folha de S.Paulo showed a balance between them, but presented some of them as generic sources, as “specialists” and “environmentalists”. No newspaper consulted traditional communities associated to mangroves. In the criteria of this paper, most of the Folha de S.Paulo citations aimed to highlight the ecological consequences of the loss of mangroves, while Brasil de Fato prioritized criticizing the attempt to revoke CONAMA Resolution 303/2002. All the articles analyzed mentioned the Resolution, a fact that is justified by the temporal and thematic scope of this paper. Even so, the results obtained reinforce the journalistic tendency to report the environment more strongly when there are catastrophic events involving it.Os manguezais estão localizados em planícies do entremarés com dinâmicas ecológicas sensíveis e peculiares, que resultam em serviços ecossistêmicos aproveitados por humanos, como provisão de alimento e proteção das regiões costeiras. Apesar de sua importância, o Brasil é um dos hotspots de perda de áreas de manguezal neste contexto, a mídia é capaz de moldar o imaginário popular e intensificar, manter ou se opor às questões envolvendo manguezais, ouvindo ou não a pluralidade de vozes envolvidas. Sendo assim, o presente trabalho objetivou analisar as fontes de publicações de jornais nas quais o manguezal foi central no enquadramento. Para isso, foram levantadas matérias dos jornais Brasil de Fato e Folha de S. Paulo publicadas no ano de 2020 e selecionadas aquelas que atendiam aos objetivos da pesquisa. Posteriormente, foram realizadas classificações de suas fontes e do conteúdo incluídos.  No total, foram delimitadas 04 matérias, que continham 27 citações de 09 fontes distintas. Elas foram enquadradas em Especializadas, Institucionais, Oficiais e Referenciais. Houve dominância de fontes Institucionais, na figura de ONG’s, nas matérias do Brasil de Fato e um equilíbrio na Folha de S. Paulo, que apresentou fontes genéricas, na figura de especialistas e ambientalistas. Nenhum jornal consultou comunidades tradicionais ligadas ao manguezal. As citações mais presentes na Folha de S. Paulo buscavam, nos critérios deste trabalho, evidenciar as consequências ecológicas da perda de manguezais, enquanto o Brasil de Fato priorizou as críticas à tentativa de revogação da Resolução 303/2002 do CONAMA. Todas as matérias analisadas mencionaram a Resolução, fato que se justifica pelo recorte temporal e temático do trabalho. Ainda assim, os resultados obtidos reforçam a tendência jornalística de noticiar o meio-ambiente mais fortemente quando há eventos catastróficos que o envolvem.
