Aristófanes: A Assembleia das Mulheres

Abstract

It is a translation of the play Ἐκκλησιάζουσαι (The Assembly of Women) by Aristophanes into Portuguese. We opted for a translation that maintained a reasonable accuracy to the original, but at the same time tried to bring humor and Aristophanes’ intentions to a Portuguese language that are used on a daily bases on Brazil from the beginning of the 21st century. We emphasize that this translation aims an audience not specialized in Aristophanes or ancient Greek, but people who are interested in reading an ancient comedy in a friendly and accessible language. In addition, we wrote a brief introduction to ancient Greek culture, some explanatory notes about the play and justifications to the translation process.Trata-se da tradução da obra Ἐκκλησιάζουσαι (A Assembleia das Mulheres) de Aristófanes para o português. Optamos por uma tradução que mantivesse um rigor razoável em relação ao original, mas que ao mesmo tempo tentasse trazer o humor e as intenções de Aristófanes numa linguagem próxima à falada no Brasil durante o início do século XXI. Ressalvamos que esta tradução visa a um público não especializado em Aristófanes ou grego antigo, ou seja, pessoas que têm interesse em apreciar a leitura de uma comédia antiga numa linguagem amigável e acessível.
