The stomata have a relationship with plant physiological activities, such as photosynthesis, respiration, and transpiration, that affect plant productivity. Water yam (Dioscorea alata L.) is one of the underutilized tuber plants that contain essential nutrients but get less attention from the public. The insufficiency of adequate information related to overflowing production factors is one cause of the lack of interest in the cultivation of this species. This study aimed to identify stomata characteristics, tuber productivity, and the relationship between stomatal characteristics and tuber productivity. The research was conducted in Pasuruan Regency, using 57 and 86 accessions selected based on high excess productivity. The analysis used the T-test, Mann-Whitney test, and correlation test. The results showed that the stomatal number, density, tuber weight, width, and diameter of 86 accession were higher than 57 accessions but smaller in terms of stomatal size and tuber length. Stomata number and density were positively correlated with tuber weight. On the other hand, the stomatal size and tuber weight showed a negative correlation. The tuber weight of 86 accession was higher than 57 accessions, even though not significantly different statistically. Both of these accessions have the potential to be cultivated by focusing on their environmental conditions for the optimum tubers yield can be achieved, as well as supporting the national food diversification based on the local food community.
Stomata diketahui memiliki hubungan dengan aktivitas fisiologis tanaman seperti fotosintesis, respirasi, dan transpirasi yang berpengaruh terhadap produktivitas tanaman. Uwi (Dioscorea alata L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman umbi-umbian kurang termanfaatkan dengan nutrisi penting dan potensi hasil tinggi, namun kurang mendapatkan perhatian dari masyarakat. Minimnya informasi terkait faktor yang berperan dalam mendukung produksi yang melimpah, menjadi salah satu penyebab kurangnya minat budidaya jenis ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi karakteristik stomata, produktivitas umbi, serta hubungan antara karakteristik stomata dan produktivitas umbi. Penelitian dilakukan di Kabupaten Pasuruan, menggunakan aksesi 57 dan 86 yang dipilih berdasarkan keunggulan produktivitas tinggi (bobot umbi). Analisis menggunakan uji T, Mann-Whitney, dan uji korelasi Spearman. Hasil studi menunjukkan aksesi 86 lebih tinggi dibandingkan aksesi 57 dalam hal jumlah stomata, kerapatan stomata, bobot umbi, lebar umbi, dan diameter umbi, meskipun pada ukuran keliling stomata dan panjang umbi aksesi 57 lebih tinggi. Jumlah dan kerapatan stomata memiliki korelasi positif dengan bobot umbi, sedangkan ukuran keliling stomata dengan bobot umbi menunjukkan korelasi negatif. Data bobot umbi aksesi 86 lebih besar nilainya dibandingkan aksesi 57, namun tidak berbeda nyata secara signifikan. Kedua aksesi ini berpotensi untuk dibudidayakan dengan memperhatikan kondisi lingkungan tanam agar produktivitas umbi uwi dapat dihasilkan secara optimal dan mendukung upaya diversifikasi pangan nasional berbasis komoditas lokal.
