Un’ epica bibliografia visiva della storia della distruzione dei libri

Abstract

The Singapore Pavilion, set up as part of the 59th edition of the Art Exhibition La Biennale di Venezia, hosts the work of artist Shubigi Rao, a threefold multidisciplinary installation comprising a book, a video and a paper maze built around the theme of books destruction. They are part of a decade-long project under the title Pulp: A Short Biography of the Banished Book. Starting in 2014, it has brought the artist to visit archives and libraries all around the world and to meet women and men who daily dedicate themselves to defending books and cultures on the margins. Here we present the works exhibited in Venice (2022) and the three books that have already been published (2016, 2018, 2022) out of the five scheduled.Il Padiglione di Singapore, allestito nell’ambito della 59. edizione della Biennale d’Arte di Venezia, ospita l’opera dell’artista Shubigi Rao, una triplice installazione multidisciplinare che comprende un libro, un film e un labirinto di carta costruiti intorno al tema della distruzione dei libri. Fanno parte di un progetto decennale dal titolo Pulp: A Short Biography of the Banished Book. Iniziato nel 2014, ha portato l’artista a visitare archivi e biblioteche in tutto il mondo e a incontrare donne e uomini che quotidianamente si spendono per difendere i libri e le culture ai margini. In questo contesto presentiamo le opere esposte a Venezia (2022) e i tre dei cinque libri previsti che sono già stati pubblicati (2016, 2018, 2022)
