Self construals suicide and attitudes toward suicide

Abstract

Bu çalışmada benlik kurguları ile intihar davranışları ve intihara yönelik tutumlar arasındaki ilişkiler incelenmiştir. Ayrıca özerk, ilişkisel ve özerk-ilişkisel benlik kurguları olan bireylerin intihar davranışları, intihara karşı tutumları ve intihar eden kişiye karşı tutumları üzerindeki etkileri araştırılmıştır. Araştırma örneklemi Aydın merkezde bulunan farklı başarı düzeylerine göre seçkisiz olarak seçilen liselerin 9., 10. ve 11. sınıflarında okuyan 309 erkek, 393 kız toplam 702 öğrenciden oluşmuştur. Yapılan analiz sonucunda intihar düşüncesi, girişimi ve intihar davranışı olan bireylerin özerk benlik kurgusu puanlarının yüksek olduğu, intihar düşüncesi, girişimi ve intihar davranışı olmayan bireylerin ilişkisel benlik kurgusu puanlarının yüksek olduğu bulunmuştur. Özerk-ilişkisellik puanlarının ise intihar düşüncesi ve intihar davranışı olan katılımcılarda daha yüksek olduğu, intihar girişimi açısından anlamlı farklılık göstermediği bulunmuştur. In this study, the relation among self-construal, attitudes towards suicidal behavior and suicidal behaviours is analyzed. Besides, the individuals having autonomous, relational and autonomous-related self construals have been examined in terms of their effect on the attitudes towards suicidal behaviours, their manners about suicide and the ones committing suicide. Research sample consists of 702 students from 9th, 10th and 11th classes of high schools in the centre of Aydın. Having been selected according to different levels of success, 309 boys and 393 girls set off this sample. As a result of the analysis, the individuals having suicidal ideation, suicidal attempt and suicidal behaviours have got higher scores in autonomous-self construal area. Whereas, the ones not having suicidal ideation, suicidal attempt or behaviours have got higher scores in related-self construal area. On the other hand, higher scores in autonomous-related self area are got by the ones who have suicidal ideation and suicidal behaviour. Also according to these students, suicidal attempt has been found not to be very different from suicidal behaviour
