Rachel Todd letter to Charity Rotch, Hartford, July 8, 1822

Abstract

Rachel Todd inquires whether Charity planned to return to New England in another year's time. Whether this would have been a permanent move is uncertain. Rachel also makes reference to Thomas Rotch's "dreadful attack in the head" that may have been symptoms of malaria or a related fever from which Rotch died in August, 1823. There is also reference to epidemics of measles and the demise of Doctor Mather, who Rachel writes, "was impressed with the idea that he was not at home," quite possibly a reference to dementia.7.8" x 9.8" (19.8 by 25.3 cm
