Principios y criterios para la protección del «Ambiente» en la Carta de Atenas de 1931

Abstract

The present study deals with the significan! advance represented by the Athens Agreement of 1931 in attempts to safeguard our architectural heritage. In the agreement the concept of the protection of buildings as single, isolated objects is superseded, and the surrounding context is also taken into consideration. We analyse the content of the various papers presented at the lnternational Conference held in Athens in October 1931 in an attempt to determine the criteria on which the recommendations on the protection of the «environment» were based. This is the concept which underlies ali action regarding the spaces surrounding any historical building which is internationally sanctioned in the Athens Agreement.El significativo avance que se experimenta con la Carta de Atenas de 1931 en la salvaguardia del patrimonio arquitectónico, al superar la concepción del monumento como un objeto singular y aislado a proteger y al ampliar la tutela al ámbito urbano circundante, es la razón que motiva el trabajo desarrollado, cuya finalidad es conocer a través de las diferentes ponencias presentadas a la Conferencia Internacional sobre la Protección del Patrimonio Histórico, celebrada en Atenas en Octubre de 1931 , los fundamentos y criterios en los que se basan las recomendaciones incluidas en este documento internacional en relación a la protección del «ambiente», concepto éste que es el que instrumenta teórica y propositivamente la actuación en el espacio circundante a los monumentos, sancionada internacionalmente a través de la Carta de Atenas
