Universality and symbolization in Leibniz

Abstract

A partir da concepção de um racionalismo integral, em que vigora o ideal da plena demonstrabilidade segundo o paradigma identitário da verdade, configura-se em Leibniz a questão da universalidade, que seria enunciada com mais pertinência como a do determinismo universal. São dois aspectos de uma mesma questão: em primeiro lugar, a universalidade no sentido arquitetônico, correspondente à totalidade; em segundo lugar, a determinação absoluta do indivíduo singular. Tanto num caso quanto no outro, a plena determinação é inalcançável para a mente humana. Mas as operações simbólicas de determinação, permitem, de alguma maneira, contornar a impossibilidade de uma visão simultânea e articulada de todos os elementos de um composto e, assim, nos encaminham na direção de uma universalidade determinante. Os fundamentos, os procedimentos e os riscos aí envolvidos constituem o tema desse texto.Based on the conception of an integral rationalism, in which the ideal of a full demonstrability takes place according to the identitary paradigm of the truth, the question of universality is configured in Leibniz, which a would then be more pertinently enunciated as the subject of universal determinism. The following are two aspects of a single question: in the first place, universality in its architectural sense, corresponding to the totality; in the second place, the absolute determination of the singular individual. In one case as well as the orther, complete determination cannot be reached by the human mind. But symbolic determination operations allow, somehow, for the avoidance of the impossiblity of a simultaneous and articulate vision of all of the elements of a compound and, thus, we are lead in the direction of determinable universality.
