The efficient exchange of engineering materials data, either in the supply chain or between research groups, has the potential to improve the development and utilization of advanced materials for engineering applications. In Europe, efforts to develop harmonized Standards for engineering materials data have taken place in the context of two recently completed CEN Workshops, namely CEN/WS ELSSI EMD and CEN/WS SERES. As well as delivering technologies to enable materials data to be exchanged and reported electronically, these Workshops have delivered a critical examination of the business case for a transition to electronic reporting and have identified viable long term maintenance and development options. The European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) is actively involved in the development and validation of these Standards. In this respect, the engineering materials database hosted by the JRC at http://odin.jrc.ec.europa.eu/alcor/Main.jsp has been enabled for these technologies, thereby facilitating innovative services in support of collecting, exchanging, and publishing engineering materials data.JRC.G.I.4 - Nuclear Reactor Safety and Emergency Preparednes
