Physical and Chemical Properties of Two New Small Bacteriophages

Abstract

IN recent years, several investigators have reported new bacteriophages which have a molecular weight about 100 times less than the classical T-series of phages1,2. Those small phages which have been physically characterized are roughly spherical and have a molecular weight of 4–6 × 106, of which 20–30 per cent is nucleic acid. The nucleic acid is either single-stranded DNA3 or RNA2
