Before and After Surveys of a New Station at Steeton.

Abstract

This study has been performed to assist the validation of the Stated Intentions forecasting method and at the same time provide West Yorkshire PTE with a valuable insight into the travel patterns and demands of the population in the catchment area for the Steeton & Silsden station. The study was carried out in two stages comprising a before and after survey strategy. The first stage involved the distibution of a questionnaire on the 25/26th March 1990, a few months before the station was re-opened. The questionnaire comprised two parts, the first of a more general nature and the second concerning the last trip made by a household member to the neighbouring town of Keighley. This town was chosen as it was considered to be the most popular destination for inhabitants of the area for both employment and leisure journeys. To encourage participation, pre-paid envelopes were provided with the questionnaires, copies of which are contained within Appendix 1. The second stage involved an on-platform survey carried out on both Thursday 6th June and Saturday 8th June 1992, nearly one year after the re-opening of the station, Appendix 2 contains a copy of the questionnaire used
