Testing of piston combustion engines

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to compile knowledge and provide a comprehensive overview of the testing of piston combustion engines, dynamometers and types of testing for engines designed for agricultural machinery. Types of various tests are described, dynamometers are categorized and the characteristics of individual components are studied. Different types of tests are also categorized and their principles summarized. Based upon these findings, the most suitable configurations are determined for a borrowed dynamometer to measure agricultural machinery. The borrowed dynamometer was used to conduct practical measurements of the external speed characteristics of combustion engines in agricultural machinery. It was experimentally determined that the duration of measurement is limited by the reduced efficiency of eddy current brakes due to increasing rotor temperature
