An assessment of the use of nuclear microprobe techniques in pollution studies : quantification of elemental concentrations in fish scales

Abstract

Includes abstract.Includes bibliographical references. This thesis deals with the applicability of Ion Beam Analysis (IBA) techniques for ascertaining the extent of water pollution by analyzing scales of fish that live in polluted waters. As a fish grows, ions from its immediate environment are incorporated into the matrix of the fish scale and so scales can be used as biomarkers of pollution events
