A more effective habilitation supported by web-based education. A study of habilitation education development

Abstract

Utvecklingen av informationsteknologi som har skett under det senaste årtiondet har inneburit stora förändringar i levnadssätt för människan. Vi har vant oss vid att ständigt vara uppkopplade och att ha tillgång till information vart vi än befinner oss genom mobil teknologi. Detta har inneburit förändringar även för utbildningsverksamheter och allt fler utbildningar har blivit tillgängliga via Internet. Denna typ av webbaserade utbildningar är idag mycket vanliga inom såväl skolområdet som inom företagsvärlden då de erbjuder en flexibilitet för användaren. Habiliteringen Lundbystrand har uppmärksammat potentialen i denna typ av utbildning och ser en möjlighet att effektivisera sin verksamhet med hjälp av att ersätta delar av sin föräldrautbildning med en webbutbildning. Då det tidigare inte gjorts någon forskning kring hur habiliteringar kan gå tillväga för att göra en sådan ersättning, var syftet med denna studie att undersöka detta. Vi ställde oss frågan: Kan delar av habiliteringars föräldrautbildningar ersättas med webbaserade utbildningar och i så fall, vad är av särskild vikt vid utformningen av dem? För att besvara frågeställningen utförde vi en fallstudie på Habiliteringen Lundbystrand, där vi genomförde en observation vid ett utbildningstillfälle, en enkätundersökning med föräldrar som deltagit vid utbildningen samt ett flertal intervjuer med personer som är involverade i verksamhetens föräldrautbildningar. Genom att analysera resultatet från datainsamlingen i kombination med den teoretiska bakgrunden, resulterade studien i ett antal riktlinjer för habiliteringen att förhålla sig till vid utvecklingen av en webbutbildning. Våra huvudsakliga slutsatser är att de delar av föräldrautbildningarna som består av föreläsningar, går med fördel att ersättas med en webbutbildning. Dock framkom det att det är av vikt att bibehålla de delar där föräldrarna får träffas och diskutera i grupp.The information technology development that has occurred over the past decade has brought major changes into people’s lives. We have gotten used to being constantly connected to the Internet and always having access to information through mobile technology. This has led to changes in education and more and more courses have become available through Internet. These web-based educations are nowadays very common in schools and in the business world as they provide increased flexibility for the user. Habiliteringen Lundbystrand has seen the potential in this kind of education and believes this is an opportunity for them to rationalize their work by replacing parts of their education for parents with a web-based education. There is no previous research on how habilitation education can be web-based. That is why the aim of our study is to examine the following question: Is it possible to replace parts of habilitation education for parents with a web-based platform and if so, what is of particular importance when creating this? To answer our question we performed a case study at Habiliteringen Lundbystrand where we did an observation, a survey and multiple interviews. By analysing the results of our data gathering with the theoretical background, the study resulted in a set of guidelines that a habilitation clinic can have in mind when developing a web-based education. Our main conclusion is that the parts with lectures can, with benefit, be replaced with a web-based education, though it is highly important to keep the parts where the parents get together for a group discussion
