"If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" [Lionel Bowen] [picture] /

Abstract

Title devised by cataloguer.; Published in the Canberra Times on 2 May 1986.; Part of the Pryor collection of cartoons and drawings. The Hawke Government is embarrassed by the report of the Stewart Royal Commission into organised crime in NSW which establishes the authenticity of the 'Age tapes' containing information gathered from unauthorised police phone taps on organised crime figures, which had fallen into the hands of the Age newspaper. There is obviously no longer any point in continuing to deny the extent of criminal activity as a fact- at least according to Federal Attorney General Lionel Bowen. --Information provided by Geoff Pryor
