Chemotherapeutic study of chromones from spanish cneoraceae

Abstract

This paper deals with the cytostatic and antibacterial tests applied to a series of ten natural chromones isolated from two Spanish Cneoraceae, Cneorum tricoccum and C. pulverulentum. The results obtained suggest that these two species and, in particular, some of the compounds studied, may be of potential interest as antitumorals, more complete assays being recommended. We thank the Department of Botany, University of La Laguna, for advice and in whose herbarium voucher samples have been deposited, Drs. B. M. Fraga and A. G. Ravelo for their collaboration on the chemical aspects and Miss E. Bayo for her efficient technical work in the determination of the cytostatic activity. This research was financed by a grant from the Comisión Administradora del Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias de la Seguridad Social (411/81).Peer reviewe
