Comparative analysis between fantasy The Wizard of Oz by Lyman Frank Baum and film adaption

Abstract

Diploma work begins with the definition of fantasy and its structure, adapted from the book The Magic Code: The Use of Magical Patterns and Fantasy for Children by swedish structuralist Maria Nikolajeva from 1988. Followed by the presentation of american writer Lyman Frank Baum (1856-1919) and his bibliography. The following is a presentation of his most famous work, in the slovenian version of the fantasy The Wondeful Wizard of Oz first published in 1959 and comparison with the same name film (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz) in 1939 directed by Victor Fleming. There are the major literary persons, side-literary person and helpers presented. The analysis of the fantastic elements is presented, which Maria Nikolajeva described in her book The Magic Code: The Use of Magical Patterns and Fantasy for Children (1988). In the last, special-didactic part of a diploma, i am stating the proposal of a fantasy The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900) based on educational methods of interpretation, which shows how the teacher teaching the class can deal with this work for teaching literature in the fourth grade of primary school.
