Perbandingan Keefektifan Tepid Water Sponge dan Rendam Kaki Air Hangat Terhadap Penurunan Suhu Tubuh pada Anak Usia 6-12 Tahun di RSUD Karanganyar

Abstract

Introduction: Fever is a symptom of a disease as a form of reaction or the natural process of the body in fighting against infections caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Fever in children, especially on school-age makes parents have to know how to cope with fever properly, and medical staff also must be able to provide nursing care interventions in coping with fever in children. The intervention can be either tepid water sponge compresses or soaking the feet in warm water. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of the two techniques in lowering children’s body temperature who suffer from fever, namely the tepid water sponge technique and soaking feet in warm water. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design which used a pre-test and post-test group design approach with two comparison treatments involving 20 groups of tepid sponge and 20 groups of soak feet warm water therapy that was determined using purposive sampling. To analyze the data paired sample t-test and independent-sample t-test were used. Result: The results of the paired sample t-test statistical analysis in the two study groups showed p-value = 0,001<0.05, for tepid sponge and p=0,031<0,05 for soak feet, which means that there were differences in body temperature both before the intervention and after the intervention given to the tepid sponge group and the soak feet warm water therapy group. However, the results of the independent sample t-test showed significance value of post-test body temperature measurements between the two groups that are p = 0.001 <0.05, which means there is a comparison of the average decrease in body temperature between the tepid sponge group and the soak feet warm water therapy group. Conclusion: These results indicate that if there is a significant decrease in body temperature in the tepid group, compared to the soak feet warm water therapy group. Therefore, giving tepid water sponge compress interventions is more effective in lowering body temperature in children who suffer from fever
