Report on the Survey of the islands of Gulf of Mannar by CMFRI for the setting up of a Marine National Park

Abstract

In 1975, the Minister for Education and Tourism, Govt. of Tamil Nadu had written to the Union Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation about the need for the creation of a Marine National Park at Krusadai, Ramanathapuram District and the need for appointing an expert committee for drafting a feasibility report for the same. It was proposed that a State level Committee be set up in which the Director, Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute will be actively associated. The Director, Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute had offered to provide consultancy service of his scientists in the survey of the islands, study of the fauna and flora and assessment of the living resources in the area. He had also stated that the setting up a Marine National Park will be a feasible proposition
