The purpose of the independent medical examination (IME) is to determine the degree of impairment resulting from an allowed work injury. Most examinations are to assist the Commission in the consideration of Permanent Total Disability (PTD). The first section of the manual explains administrative and examination policies common to all Commission independent examinations and file reviews. The remaining six sections of the manual describe specific examination requirements for evaluating various body parts, regions, or organ systems affected by an industrial injury or disease, and some special considerations related to maximum medical improvement
