Abstract

Nobody’s Business is Springfield College’s first student newspaper, which ran from 1899 through 1904. It was typically between nine and eleven pages, and occasionally had hand-drawn illustrations. The editors encouraged students to submit news for the next week’s paper to the Student Association Office. The newspaper included quotes heard around the campus, class histories, long essays, and reports on club activities, athletics, alumni, and school finances. At the start of the publication, the name of the editor was purposefully kept secret, and contributors could also remain anonymous if they so wished. Around 1901, Nobody’s Business began separating articles by category (e.g. sports, social). Two years later, the paper began including a masthead
