The “Celestina” and the “procurer”: from the literary prototype to the actual procedural facts.

Abstract

The literature of the Spanish Golden Age, specially “La Celestina” and other similar works, shows the main features of a procurer. Literary works have created an archetype that has widespread and have ended representing the economic activity carried out by a procurer –which in fact was defined by different patterns in the society of the Modern Age-. We dedicate this work to the analysis of differences between literary and actual procuring world throughout the analysis of criminal lawsuits, and the definition of the modus operandi of pimps, ruffians and madams.Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (HAR2012-31909
