Abstract

Mathematics is a compulsory lesson that must be available at all levels of education. But math lessons are often considered difficult by some students. Therefore, there is a need for instructional media that will help students to be active and directly involved in the teaching and learning process. The right instructional media will make it easier for teachers to deliver learning material. Instructional media could be used to solve the questions. In this case, researcher used drinking straw as instrustional media. The purpose of this research was to identify the effect of using drinking straw on the completion of multiplication questions in grade III mathematics subjects at SD Negeri 03 Tohudan. This type of research is experimental research with a quantitative approach. The experimental model that will be used is the One-Group Pretest Post-test Design, the model used in a class given a pre-test then given treatment, and at last a post-test is given. The results at the pre-test were compared with the post-test. The results obtained from this research can be seen as the use of drinking straw (as instructional media) has a significant influence 5 on the completion of multiplication questions in grade III. It can be seen from the results of the statistical analysis of the hypothesis t-test, it is known t count (2,337)> t table (1,761) so that H0 is rejected, because based on the testing criteria in this test H0 is rejected if t> t (1-a) ( n1 + n2-2). From the results of the correlation data analysis, the rxy value is 0.868648. Based on the table from Zuldafrial (2012: 99) it can be stated that rxy between 0.70 - 0.90 has a strong correlation. So that the use of drinking straw as instructional media can help students to finised of the multiplication questions to make it easier, faster, correct, and fun
