Design of a comprehensive information system in support of the occupational safety officer

Abstract

The goal of this thesis is to describe and develop an Information System, the main purpose of which is to improve the efficiency of Occupational Safety Officers by fundamentally altering the way in which they perform their duties. This paper focuses on the development of the subject Information System in the form of a Web Application. This application’s architecture applies a hybrid development approach between the standard Structured Development and Agile methodologies, and additionally will incorporate custom solutions that evolve throughout the development lifecycle. This application's business requirements, rules, logic, and User Interface design are derived from a thorough study and analysis of the Occupational Safety Officer's domain. Regarding the previously mentioned analysis, we address this challenge in the third chapter. After gathering and organizing the user's requirements, we begin planning the Information System that we call "Helmet Information System" (HIS). When a sufficient part of the system that covers the needs of this thesis is completed, we present it in chapter four. In that chapter describe its safety measures, the environment that it is being placed into, and the means by which the system will offer its services to the user. In that same chapter we also present the parts of the system that we call Modules. Though the system will be composed of many Modules, this thesis properly addresses only the “Training” Module, which serves as a prototype that indirectly explains other Modules that will be added in the future. In this step-by-step process we get a better idea of how HIS will look like and what role will have in the future
